What is Public Relations?
Public Relations is defined in The Practice of Public Relations as being a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.
Careers in the public relations field include, but are not limited to, the following:
Agency
Work as a publicist, event planner or an account, promotions or marketing co-ordinator.
Corporate
Work in the entertainment, healthcare or any other industry as a communications specialist.
Non-Profit
Plan events, write stories, media releases and so much more as a communications specialist.
Freelance
Become your own boss by working as a freelance PR professional for companies and organizations.

Durham College’s Public Relations program allows graduates to enter the workforce quicker and with all the skills they need to become successful practitioners. This fast-tracked program offers students the opportunity to learn about the industry within two calendar years while earning an Ontario College Advanced Diploma.
Students will:
- Complete two placements – one non-profit and one corporate
- Produce the alumni publication Reflections magazine
- Learn Adobe Creative Suite programs like Photoshop, InDesign and Premier
